Rejuvelac Recipe

Place in a bowl on the counter for 24 hours:

  • 1 c. barley
  • 2 cups water

Allow it to soak while exposed to air.  After 24 hours, strain and place water in the refrigerator.

Drink small amounts two to three times daily to establish strong digestive flora, regenerate liver and blood, and support recovery from arthritis, candida overgrowth, cancer, diabetes, and degenerative health conditions.

This rejuvenating drink, when consumed daily over time, will help establish healthy diversity in the intestinal flora.  It is a key element in regenerating a weak digestive system or stagnant core energy,  or boosting a lowered immune system.

Is this the kind of barley which we buy to make a barley drink cos it looks different in your picture. The one we buy from the grocery shop is white in colour and sometimes we can get it from the supermart in canned form. The one in the picture is elongated in shape while the who we usually buy is round. Can you confirm is there a special type or is it oats or wheat.

Any type of barley should work. The best type is one with the hull–inner protective coating–still in place. Pearl barley has had this layer removed, which makes it appear white. I have used pearl barley before when I could not get unpolished barley, and it will also work to make this recipe.

This is my favorite healing drink-so simple and tasty and I feel connected to the ancient Egyptians: my son once did a report about the food and drink of their time and we made a barley concoction to represent their beer, this recipe is actually drinkable!
I also enjoy the leftover barley slightly warmed for cereal.
