Rooibos lotion base is a premium quality all natural creme, designed to be used as a base for creating your own hydrating face and skin lotions and serums.  It has a neutral aroma.  It has a fine, creamy texture and a lovely emollient quality, restoring skin tone and elasticity, and deeply moisturizing cells.

It is complete to use all on its own, especially for those who desire a fragrance free lotion.  It is a superior face and skin lotion, made with mostly organic and all natural ingredients.

Its real gift is the ability to maintain its texture and form when essential oils are added to customize the lotion.  This is rare for a natural base!  It can be made for numerous custom purposes by the addition of a small amount of essential oil.

Working With Rooibos Lotion Base

Rooibos lotion base can receive from 0.5% to 3% of essential oils or other botanical extracts, without changing its form.  This works out to about 1 to 6 drops of essential oil per ounce of base, which varies from one oil to another.  You will need to experiment to find the best amount of the oils that you choose to add.

We recommend adding only as much essential oil as you need, and making very small batches until you know how much you can add without changing the texture.

If too much hydrosol or essential oil is added, it will upset the formula balance and lower the shelf life of the product dramatically.

Another sign that you have added too much to the blend is when the lotion gets thinner with time.  Sometimes this can be corrected or helped by storing the blended product in the refrigerator.

Customizing Your Lotion

• For couperose skin–red cheeks, tiny broken capillaries:  Try adding lemon, everlasting, neroli
• For lightening age spots, evening the complexion:  Try pearl powder, lemon, everlasting, grapefruit, bergamot, rose hydrosol
• For wrinkles or loose skin:  Try adding rose, rose hip seed, everlasting, mastic, zdravetz
• For a skin toner–tightening and reducing pores:  Try adding lemon, cypress, bitter orange, cucumber
• For healing burns, rashes, scars, skin irritations:  Try adding marigold, lavender,  everlasting,  seabuckthorn, rose, sandalwood or rose hydrosols
• For a dry skin lotion:  Try adding rose hydrosol, rose hip seed, seabuckthorn seed, geranium,  German chamomile

Although I prefer to make my own skin care products (see the blog for recipes and ideas), rooibos is the one lotion that I trust when I need to use something other than my own.  I have had really good results with it, and other loyal customers have reported that they will not run out of this base!
